Bloomfield Hills Michigan Boulder Wall
This garden is being held back with the placement of large 3 and 4′ boulders precisely set into the soil. Normally we build boulder walls with fabric and the boulders touch each other. however, this design relies on the Pachysandra groundcover to hold the soil and prevent erosion. Our client wanted a simple look, natural and free flowing. So my design here uses the extended root system of existing River Birch, Hosta and the Pachysandra. Last year we did one side of this large bed as an experiment. It was so successful that the client decided to complete the second half this year. I use a special fertilizer that aggressively promotes root growth and the Pachysandra last year tripled in size to this year.
